She studied an Art and Design Foundation year at Oxford Brookes University, Oxford, UK, and then went on to the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama to study BA Theatre Practice: Puppetry in London, before continuing her studies as part of the 10th promotion at l’Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts de la Marionnette in Charleville-Mézières, France.
She is currently in compagnonnage with Compagnie Akselere, based in Caen (France).
Of Dutch origin, Laura was born in Germany and has lived in France, Canada and the U.K before finishing her studies in Charleville-Mézières (France) and moving to Brussels (Belgium), where she currently lives.
Laura Elands is a visual artist and puppeteer, combining both disciplines to create interdisciplinary performances.
She draws her inspiration from her natural surroundings, with a particular interest in the relationship between nature and the human body and mind.

Un spectacle qui fait appel au théâtre d’ombres pour explorer les différents états mentaux dus aux troubles dissociatifs de l’identité.
Commentaire de Melanie Goodwin, présidente de First Person Plural, une association britannique pour celles et ceux souffrant de troubles dissociatifs de l’identité :
« Laura a su saisir la créativité qui va souvent de pair avec cet état de santé mentale très complexe. Sa manipulation subtile de la marionnette qui traduit la principale cause de ces troubles, une violence extrême subie dans l’enfance, témoigne d’une véritable compréhension de ceux-ci et d’une créativité que je n’hésite pas à qualifier de magique. D’autant plus que la terreur de ces enfants demeure omniprésente tout au long de sa performance. Je la remercie pour sa détermination à cerner cette triste réalité, à la représenter et ainsi, à permettre à un grand nombre de personnes d’en prendre conscience. »
